Sharon Clark: Cabaret Review. PDF Print E-mail

The overflow crowd at the Metropolitan Room got quite a treat last Friday listening to Sharon Clark perform her show Blame It On My Youth. Ms. Clark, a Washington DC favorite, is a winner of the Billie Holiday Vocal Competition. Ms Clark has a voice, which is very much her own yet reminiscent of  Sarah Vaughan. Ms. Clark’s sound and range are truly extraordinary. Her diction is perfect and every word is easily understood. The show is a collection of hit songs mostly from the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Sharon Clark did a terrific new take on two of the Beatles early hits And I Love Him and Do You Know a Secret by performing them with a Latin beat. She showed off her ability as a scat singer with a very jazzy version of Give a Little Whistle from Walt Disney’s Pinocchio. It was fun listening to her perform Little Anthony’s Tears On My Pillow. The audience joined in on her lively performance of Dusty Springfield’s Just a Little Lovin’. Ms Clark closed the show withGoodbye Charlie and her encore was a very humorous rendition of Cole Porter’s You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To.

Happily, Sharon Clark will return to the Metropolitan Room at 34 West 22nd Street in June. I look forward to seeing her again.
