Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center (The Center) will present BROADWAY BACKWARDS 5, a one night only event, on Monday, February 22 at 8 PM at the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center (150 West 65th Street). BROADWAY BACKWARDS 5 is produced by BC/EFA and will benefit BC/EFA and The Center.

Additional performers for BROADWAY BACKWARDS 5 include Tituss Burgess (Guys and Dolls, The Little Mermaid), Mario Cantone (Sex and the City, Laugh Whore), Raul Esparza (Speed-the-Plow, Company), Becki Newton (ABC’s “Ugly Betty”, Girl Crazy at Encores!), Tony Award-winner Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change; Jelly’s Last Jam), with more stars to be added in the coming weeks.

As previously announced, the list of performers also includes Tony-winner Gary Beach (The Producers), Tony-winner Len Cariou (Sweeney Todd), Tony Goldwyn (upcoming revival of Promises, Promises and the film Ghost), Aaron Lazar (A Little Night Music, The Light in the Piazza), Michele Lee (Two-time Tony Award nominee) and Julia Murney (The Wild Party, Wicked).

Florence Henderson will serve as host for this year’s BROADWAY BACKWARDS.

Never underestimate the power of a pronoun! BROADWAY BACKWARDS will feature some of Broadway’s biggest names singing songs originally written for the opposite gender: women singing songs written for men and men singing song written for women. By keeping all of the lyrics intact, including the original pronouns, each song takes on an entirely new dimension, sometimes with hysterical results and sometimes with immensely touching results. BROADWAY BACKWARDS will give its audience a chance to see and hear some of the most treasured songs of the Great White Way in a whole new light.

BROADWAY BACKWARDS creator Robert Bartley is returning as director and choreographer of this special evening with musical direction by Wayne Barker.

Funds raised from Miscast help MCC Theater produce some of the most talked-about new work Off Broadway and support their Youth Company and in-school partnerships that serve New York City public high school students, as well as their literary development work with emerging playwrights.

This year’s event honors actor Julianna Margulies, a dedicated member of MCC Theater’s Board of Directors and an alumni artist who appeared in the theater’s 2003 production of Intrigue with Faye. She just won a 2010 Golden Globe Award for her starring role on the CBS hit “The Good Wife” and is an Emmy Award winner for her work on the landmark NBC series, “ER.” She can also be seen in the upcoming motion picture City Island. She has appeared in numerous films and television projects and throughout her career has consistently returned to the stage both on and Off Broadway. MCC Theater honors her for her commitment to taking risks as an artist and for her long-standing support of MCC’s mission.

The roster of performers for this one-of-a-kind theatrical evening includes Raul Esparza (Speed-the-Plow, Company), Sutton Foster (Tony Award winner for Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Drowsy Chaperone), Ana Gasteyer (“SNL” alumn, Wicked, The Royal Family), Montego Glover (Memphis, The Color Purple), Cheyenne Jackson (Finian’s Rainbow, NBC’s “30 Rock”), Aaron Tveit (Next to Normal, “Gossip Girl”) and Marin Mazzie (Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime), with many more favorites to be announced. Broadway By The Year® celebrates its 10th year by taking the audience on a musical journey through the best of the Great White Way, featuring show-stopping numbers as well as lesser-known gems and little-known facts and humor about our favorite shows. The NY Times called the series “an event that is treasured by Broadway babies.” This season’s shows will include the Broadway musicals of 1927, 1948, 1966 and a special concert featuring songs from shows from 1990-2010.

“It is our intention to make this 10th Anniversary season as special and memorable as possible,” said Siegel. “To that end, we are assembling casts for each of our four concerts that will make each one a must-see event for any and every fan of Broadway musicals. We have cast a combination of Broadway regulars, as well as the stars, who are currently carrying Broadway shows. For our final show for this season on June 14th, we will do something we’ve never done before: perform one song from one show for every single year of Broadway musicals from 1990 to 2010, highlighting 21 great show tunes.

Scott Siegel has created three acclaimed and popular series for The Town Hall: the critically acclaimed Broadway By the Year, now beginning its ninth season, the Broadway Cabaret Festival, and the Broadway Summer Festival. The unique All-Performance Awards show that honors the most outstanding performers in the categories of Cabaret, Comedy and Jazz in the clubs of New York, will take place on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 7 PM. Vilanch, who has starred on Broadway in Hairspray, on TV as the center square in Hollywood Squares, and who has the reputation of being one of the funniest men in Hollywood from his many years of scripting The Oscars on TV, will once again host The Nightlife Awards, which he did to enormous acclaim in 2007. Vilanch will fly in to New York specifically to host this high profile event that has, in the past, featured performances by the likes of Brian Stokes Mitchell, Keith Carradine, Karen Akers, Larry Gatlin, Freddy Cole, Donna Murphy, the late Alan King, Elaine Stritch, John Pizzarelli & Jessicca Molaskey, Kristen Chenoweth, Keely Smith, Marilyn Maye, Robert Klein, Christine Ebersole & Billy Stritch, Betty Buckley, etc.

The Nightlife Awards are bestowed by a distinguished panel of more than two dozen critics and experts who regularly cover cabaret, comedy, and jazz. DECADE AT A GLANCE
Begins February 11 at Stella Adler Studio

Inspired by the 1930’s Dustbowl photographs of Walker Evans and
Dorothea Lange, the Harold Clurman Center for New Works in Movement
and Dance Theatre (MAD) at Stella Adler Studio will present the World
Premiere of DECADE AT A GLANCE. Written and directed by Joan Evans
with a cast of 15, this blend of theatrical documentary and folk
musical begins February 11 at Stella Adler Studio. In March 2010, the
production will travel to New Orleans for its Louisiana Premiere at
Michalopoulos Studio, produced by Artist Inc.

DECADE AT A GLANCE is an epic story of a few families in the Dustbowl,
circa 1936, who are uprooted from their farmland by drought, dust
storms and mortgage foreclosure. Making the treacherous journey out
west as migrant workers, these ordinary hard working people -- some
with hopes dashed, and dreams deferred or dissolved -- ultimately join
the union marches. Unfolding like a series of living photographs, the
story, told from the point of view of a Dustbowl survivor, is related
through songs, movement, and interviews preserved from the 1930’s.

The similarities and differences between the Great Depression, and our
own times, are self evident when we listen to simple people tell their
stories. The gestural and expressive movement evokes images of the
time. The actors sing and play the violin, flute, guitar, and ukulele.
The music combines Depression-era songs, union march songs from the
1930’s, and original vocal harmonies.

Joan Evans has been creating and performing original physical theatre
work since 1975. She won a Fringe First Award at the 1996 Edinburgh
Fringe Festival for creating, directing, and choreographing the
ensemble piece Where Ravens Rule, a theatrical response to the war in
Bosnia. She has toured her solo work in Austria, Brazil, and Germany.
She has performed her work at such theatres as the Performing Garage
and Manhattan Class Company in NYC, and the Eugene O'Neill Theatre
Center In Connecticut. She has been the recipient of four National
Endowment for the Arts Theatre Grants. She was awarded a 1993,
Citation of Excellence from the Union Internationale de la Marionnette
(UNIMA) for her work combining dance, acting, and puppetry in Rico and
Dolores. She has taught and directed at Stella Adler for two decades.

DECADE AT A GLANCE runs February 11 - 19, Wednesday - Saturday at
7:30pm. Running time is 65 minutes. Stella Adler Studio is located at

“SONGS MY FATHER LOVED” IN SPECIAL ONE-NIGHT ONLY MET ROOM ENGAGEMENT

Broadway’s John Leone, who recently finished a stint as Four Season Nick Massi, makes his Metropolitan Room debut on Sunday January 31 at 4pm in “Songs My Father Loved.” The fast paced homage to some of the iconic male voices of the 20th century, celebrates Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Vic Damone, and Jerry Vale, among others. All share Leone’s Italian-American heritage, but it is the influence these singers had on Leone’s father and his cronies at their local social club, the Sons of Italy, that affected Leone most. Here is where he launched his show business career – first as a singing busboy, and later as “the lodge’s” house wedding band singer.

Leone is backed by The David Brunetti Trio. Directed by Dann Fink, “Songs My Father Loved” is produced by Lynn DiMenna’s M Lynn Enterprises.

Besides starring in the Tony Award-winning “Jersey Boys,” the Weymouth, Massachusetts native (and current Jersey resident) starred on Broadway in “Les Miserables” as Marius, and on the national tour of “Titanic” in which he served as First Officer Charles Lightoller. Regionally he has appeared at theatres across the country, in everything from Shakespeare to Sam Shepard. His television credits include a recurring role as sports agent Ricky Williams on the Showtime series Soul Food, and appearances on all three of the Law & Order franchises.
