FOR THE FIRST TIME A BROADWAY BOUND MUSICAL
IS LAUNCHED ON THE HIGH SEAS!

BUSKER ALLEY

A SHERMAN BROTHERS/AJ CAROTHERS MUSICAL
GETS UNDERWAY ON CUNARD’S QUEEN MARY 2
WITH STAR JIM DALE AND DIRECTOR/DESIGNER TONY WALTON

BUSKER ALLEY is Broadway bound!! The musical starring Tony winner, Jim Dale, (Carry On films, Barnum, ‘Harry Potter’ audio books, “Pushing Daisies”) and directed & designed by the legendary Tony, Academy and Emmy Award winner, Tony Walton, is planning to arrive for the 2008-2009 Broadway season. The announcement was made by the producers: Margot Astrachan, Robert Blume, Kristine Lewis, Jamie Fox, Joanna Kerry & Heather Duke, at an event held on November 30th, 2007 on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 which also served to launch the CD release of the JAY Records cast album of the one night York Theater benefit performance of BUSKER ALLEY featuring Jim Dale.

BUSKER ALLEY has a score by Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman (Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, two Academy Awards©, 23 gold and platinum records, a star on the Hollywood Hall of Fame, and more movie scores than any other songwriting team in history, not to mention that little ditty, “It’s A Small World After All.”) the book is by noted film, television and theater writer, AJ Carothers (The Happiest Millionaire, The Secret of My Success). A 50 year collaborator with Tony Walton, the acclaimed Richard Pilbrow, will serve as lighting designer. Manny Kladitis and Niko Companies will provide General Management, while Production Attorney will be Jerold Couture of Fitelson/Lasky/Aslan & Couture.

BUSKER ALLEY captures the life and spirit of street performers (buskers) who earn their living in the shadow of London’s West End glamour just before and during World War II. A devil-may-care busker, Charlie, no longer “as young as he was,” takes a gutsy, young sneak thief under his wing. He discovers her gift for music and performing and, with his tutelage, her talent blossoms along with his growing infatuation for her. Although Libby becomes part of the busker family, she wants more out of life. Her natural charm and drive feeds her need for “being on the inside.” When she attracts the attention of a major West End producer, she leaves Charlie to follow her dream. She soon becomes a major stage, and after she unsuccessfully tries to introduce Charlie to her new world, Charlie comes to the realization that he and Libby belongs in different worlds.

The show is based on the 1938 British motion picture, St. Martin’s Lane, starring Charles Laughton and Vivien Leigh, which itself was based on the 1928 Marlene Dietrich/Emil Jannings film The Blue Angel. They were both inspired by the early 20th Century novel, Small Town Tyrant by Heinrich Mann.

Additional cast, designers, theatre and more exciting BUSKER ALLEY news to follow

Queen For A Day- On The Queen Mary 2!

at

I had the great fortune of spending the day on the Cunard Queen Mary 2!
I felt like royalty for the day.

Take a look at my lunch. I started with the salmon tartar. It was so good! I asked my waiter what he thought was best on the menu. He suggested I order the filet of beef. I am not a beef eater but this filet melted in my mouth. It also had a sauce that tasted like a plum sauce which was divine. I never enjoyed a steak that much!

Coming soon. Photos of the boat. And later photos of a performance of Busker Alley. More later.

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) is bringing back by popular demand Enter Laughing: The Musical, which was recently presented as part of York’s Fall 2007 Musicals in Mufti Series -- the York’s acclaimed series of musical theatre gems in staged concert performances. Enter Laughing: The Musical will be presented in its Mufti staged concert version (“in street clothes, without the usual trappings”) and will play for four performances only: Thursday, December 13 at 8 p.m., Friday, December 14 at 3 and 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 15 at 3 at the Theatre at Saint Peters (54th Street, Just East of Lexington Ave). Tickets are $35. For more information or to purchase tickets to any of the Mufti shows, visit http://www.yorktheatre.org/ or call York’s Box Office at 212-935-5820.

The show is about the journey of young aspiring actor David Kolowitz as he tries to free himself from overly protective parents and girlfriends, while struggling to meet the challenge of a lack of talent in 1930s New York City.

Regarding the return of Enter Laughing, York’s Producing Artistic Director James Morgan said: “Enter Laughing was a delightful surprise to all of us -- it played like gangbusters! We’re thrilled we’re able to bring it back for people who missed it, and for people who want to see it again. It is a show that deserves a significant future life and we’re delighted to be the ones who are able to make that happen.”

Enter Laughing: The Musical will feature a cast that includes: “L.A. Law’s” married couple Jill Eikenberry (Moonchildren, Watch on the Rhine) and Michael Tucker (The Goodbye People, Moonchildren), Bruce Adler (Crazy for You, Tony Award nomination), Paul Binotto (Dreamgirls), Josh Grisetti (“The Knights of Prosperity”), Kaitlin Hopkins (Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas, The Great American Trailer Park Musical), Trisha Rapier (The Boy From Oz), Robb Sapp (Johnny Guitar, Zanna, Don’t), Emily Shoolin (Nerds://A Musical Software Satire) and Kelly Sullivan (Bells are Ringing,). The show is directed by Stuart Ross (Forever Plaid, York’s It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman). Matt Castle (Company) is the Music Director and will perform in various cameo roles.

The musical opened on April 27, 1976 at the Harkness Theatre. Directed by Burt Shevelove and choreographed by Alan Johnson, the show featured Loni Ackerman, Kaye Ballard, George S. Irving, Barbara Lang and Robert Morse. The play Enter Laughing opened at the Henry Miller Theatre on March 13, 1963 and ran for 419 performances. Directed by Gene Saks, the show starred Alan Arkin and Vivian Blaine. Arkin won a 1963 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play. A successful film of Enter Laughing was made 1967, was directed by Carl Reiner and starred José Ferrer, Shelley Winters, Elaine May and Jack Gilford.

My Last Meal At Raku!

Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at

The Corine's Corner roll: Shrimp tempura, spicy and or sweet eel sauce. It also sometimes had caviar on the outside.

Dear Readers,
Tonight was my last meal at Raku on West 47th Street. It was a very sad night for me. I wanted to give my best regards to Ray at Raku. Hoping he will find another restaurant soon. For the past few years Raku became a social place for me to dine in the theater district before shows. I also hosted 8 parties there. It was a blast!
I will miss the food and the staff terribly!

It was a great party that went till 12 Am. Chazz and his friends know how to party! Stay tuned for the voice recording of this fabulous event.

HOLIDAY WONDERS!!!!

Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at

NEW YORK (Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007) – Is the Stagehands Strike giving you the Broadway Blues? Looking for something new to do for the whole family?

Check out Holiday Wonders at the Beacon Theater Dec. 18-26th. Sponsored by New Tang Dynasty Television, this live performance is an extravaganza of traditional Chinese arts combined with the American holiday spirit. Now in its second year, Holiday Wonders has drawn sellout crowds with its renowned choreography, costuming, original scores and background designs.

Among the highlights of the production are mini-theatrical acts based on ancient Chinese legends, folk dances from some of China’s 56 ethnic minorities, authentic costumes and dance routines from the Tang Dynasty (6-9th century) and Qing Dynasty (16-19th century). In addition, the show also brings in a genuine holiday feel by once again featuring world-class ballet and exciting American brass band performances.

“Our hope is to further build the bridge between Chinese and American culture. Through productions such as Holiday Wonders, we are able to introduce Chinese culture to a vast number of people across the United States,” said NTDTV President Zhong Lee.

In addition to the Beacon Theater in New York, performances will also be held in Baltimore, Charlotte, Greensboro, Miami, Tampa, and Atlantic City.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hope you enjoy these photos of the parade.

The weather was beautiful and very warm. It was fun taking photos. I wish I had a better view.

Since the strike, I have decided to cover other things than theater and food. Missing Broadway, and hoping Broadway will be up and running after the 25th. It is really sad. Last year on Thanksgiving, I got to see Jay Johnson "The Two And Only." The year before I spent it at "Forbidden Broadway."

Missing Broadway. Toodles!

I am writing here to comment on the chat board remarks about me. Thanks to the readers who have written to me telling me about the so called nasty comments on another Broadway site.

To my loyal readers that enjoy the site! Thank you for your letters, your notes and the constant sweet remarks. I really appreciate it.

MAYOR BLOOMBERG, NYC & COMPANY AND TIMES SQUARE ALLIANCE ANNOUNCE DINING IN THE DISTRICT – A WEEKLONG DINING DISCOUNT PROGRAM FOR THEATRE DISTRICT–AREA RESTAURANTS

Diners Will Receive 15% Discount on Meals at Over 25 Restaurants

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, NYC & Company and the Times Square Alliance today announced Dining in the District, a special weeklong dining program intended to attract New Yorkers and visitors to restaurants in the Theatre District area that have been affected by the Broadway stagehand strike. The program, which kicks off Saturday, November 17, and runs through Sunday, November 25, will offer a 15% discount on lunch or dinner to all patrons at more than 25 participating restaurants. The Mayor made the announcement this morning on the weekly radio show “Live from City Hall with Mayor Mike and John Gambling.”

“Dining in the District is a great opportunity for New Yorkers and visitors to enjoy some of the best restaurants in the Theatre District,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “While we hope that an agreement will be reached as soon as possible, I encourage New Yorkers and visitors to take advantage of this great deal and help support restaurants that have been affected by the strike.”

“NYC & Company’s Restaurant Week has become a mainstay of New York City’s restaurant scene,” said NYC & Company Chairman Jonathan M. Tisch. “It’s great that we were able to react quickly to local businesses in need of support, and we’re pleased to bring together more than 25 great restaurants in the Theatre District area for a similar dining program that will provide a boost to the neighborhood.”

“We are pleased to join with the Times Square Alliance to create Dining in the District,” said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta. “New York City is home to many wonderful restaurants, and we hope that this partnership will encourage both residents and visitors to explore the fantastic dining options in the neighborhood.”

“Every cloud has a silver lining, and in this case it’s the chance to get a great deal at some great Times Square restaurants,” said Times Square Alliance President Tim Tompkins. “Come on down, and afterwards stop by any one of the many live entertainment venues still open – jazz clubs like Iridium, comedy clubs like Carolines and live performance halls like Town Hall, the Nokia Theatre, BB King’s, Hard Rock and Roseland, to name a few.”

Dining in the District offers a 15% discount on a lunch or dinner bill at more than 25 restaurants from November 17 to November 25; the offer will not be available on Thanksgiving Day, November 22. Participating restaurants are located between 41st and 55th Streets and between Fifth and Ninth Avenues, including all of Restaurant Row on 46th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.

A list of participating restaurants is available online at http://www.nyc.gov/, on NYC & Company’s website, http://www.nycvisit.com/, the Times Square Alliance web site, http://www.timessquarenyc.org/ and through 311. YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN! SIZE QUEENS, REJOICE!

at

I went to YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN this glorious evening. I know most of the big press hated it. But, I loved it. I do have to say that I am a Mel Brooks fan. And except for the 2000 YEAR OLD MAN Young Frankenstein is my favorite Mel Brooks film. (Hoping Blazing Saddles will be next!)

What I loved:

I love shtick. Young Frankenstein has fabulous sets. I adored the HORSES during the opening number. The horses were hilarious! It upset me that no one but myself was hysterically laughing. I hurt from all of my belly laughing. It is not as good as The Producers which is very upsetting. But it is still a very enjoyable evening at the theatre!

Sutton Foster, Andrea Martin and Megan Mullay all deserve Tony nominations! I also adored Shuler Hensley as Frankenstein's creation! He was fabulous at the end when he actually spoke! (And danced)
Call: 212-239-6200 for tickets. It is running during the strike.

PS The one thing that was missing. In the film there is a scene with a little girl on a see saw. That scene was missed and would have been hilarious on the stage. Otherwise the show is a big, tacky, Brooks masterpiece. I loved every cheesy moment! See the show to understand the headline.
I believe there will be many Tony nominations for this show. Sets, costumes, best actress, best actor, special effects. It is a must see for any theater lover!(But only if you love Brooks humor.)

Frankenstein is BIG IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD!
1. BIG LAUGHS
2. BIG SETS
3. BIG STARS
4. BIG FUN.
5. BIG HIT.
FUN. LAUGHS. GOODTIMES. ;-)

Some Good Advice From City Search!

Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at

What I think you should see:

Roundabout: The Ritz I LOVED IT! 4 out of 5 stars. (The best part is Googie's number and Seth R's hilarious part which I will keep a secret)
Forbidden Broadway: 5 out of 5 stars.
Xanadu: 4 out of 5 stars.
The Glorious Ones At Lincoln Center- 4 out of 5 stars.

I loved all of these. You can also see Pgymalion at Roundabout. Jefferson Mays is outstanding!

THE MILLAY SISTERS- DON'T TELL MAMA!

at
THE MILLAY SISTERS – A Cabaret,
Performed by Margi Sharp and Rachel Murdy,
To Return To Don’t Tell Mama Nov. 30 at 6 PM and Dec. 4 and 5 at 7 PM

THE MILLAY SISTERS – A Cabaret, a one-hour musical performance about the three Millay Sisters – Edna St. Vincent Millay, the famous one; Norma Millay, the charming one; and Kathleen Millay, the youngest, a struggling author they left behind – will return to Don’t Tell Mama for three additional performances on Friday, Nov. 30, at 6 PM; and Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 4 and 5, at 7 PM. Don’t Tell Mama is located at 343 West 46th Street on Restaurant Row.
Admission is $10 at the door plus a two drink minimum. Reservations are suggested by calling 212/757-0788.

Performed by Margi Sharp, who portrays Edna, and Rachel Murdy, who plays Norma, the musical cabaret weaves in tunes from 1900 through the Jazz Age as it explores the lives, loves and tribulations of the sisters who were raised by their mother in an unconventional New England .household. Poet and playwright Edna St. Vincent Millay, who insisted on being called Vincent, was the famous one. From a family of women in Maine to the Bohemian luminaries in Greenwich Village, she sped through the first half of the 20th century giddily burning candles at both ends. Leaving a string of lovers in her wake, while becoming the first woman to win a Pulitzer Prize, she eclipsed the lives of her two sisters, Norma, the charming one who founded the Millay Colony for the Arts, and Kathleen, a struggling author.

NYC & Company, the official marketing and tourism organization for New York City, is encouraging visitors to plan their holiday celebration by booking a trip to the destination to take advantage of all it has to offer.

Central to the celebration is the famous ball drop in Times Square. This year, a new hi-tech crystal New Year’s Eve ball will debut to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the event. The City’s hospitality industry is also gearing up to accommodate the throngs of visitors that are expected.

“There’s an excitement about being in Times Square during the City’s annual ball drop, and this year will be no exception,” said George Fertitta, CEO, NYC & Company. “The City’s hotels, restaurants and attractions are also gearing up for what will be one of the year’s most memorable events.”

The new crystal ball, more than twice as bright as the previous one and with enhanced color capabilities and state-of-the-art LED lighting effects, will descend from the 77-foot flagpole at the top of One Times Square (Broadway at 43rd Street). The best viewing points are along Broadway, from 43rd Street to 50th Street, and along Seventh Avenue, as far north as 59th Street. At approximately 6pm, the ball will be raised to the top of the flagpole and lit. At exactly 11:59pm, the ball will make its 60-second descent down the flagpole to signal the start of the New Year (timessquarenyc.com).

During this holiday period, the City offers many activities for both visitors and locals to enjoy.

Circle Line cruises take passengers on a New Year’s Eve Cruise with breathtaking views of Manhattan and an incredible night of dancing, fireworks and celebration aboard the Zephyr. Board at 9:30pm, sail at 10pm and return at 1:30pm. The boat docks at South Street Seaport, Pier 16 (circlinedowntown.com, 866-9CLINE1).

For those who prefer to ring in the New Year on the Upper East Side, try the Linda Eder New Year’s Eve 2007 event at the Loews Regency Hotel. Two shows will be offered: one at 7pm (seating is at 5:30pm) and one at 9:30pm. The first package has a $175 cover charge (with a $40 food/drink minimum) and includes the show and a gift bag. The second package for the later show costs $550 per couple and includes a three-course dinner, Michael Feinstein champagne and wine produced and bottled by Iron Horse Vineyards, noisemakers/decorations, dancing and a gift bag (feinsteinsatloewsregency.com, 212-339-4095).

In Brooklyn, check out the 26th Grand Army Plaza Fireworks display, which offers the excitement of the Midtown display in a mellower atmosphere. Gathering point is Grand Army Plaza on Propsect Park’s West Drive and Prospect Park West between Grand Army Plaza and Ninth Street (prospectpark.org, 718-965-8999).

For those who prefer more active pursuits, the Annual Brooklyn Bridge Walk into the New Year gives visitors a chance to walk along one of the City’s most inspiring landmarks (newyorktalksandwalks.com, 718-591-4741).

Another option is the 10th Annual New Year’s Eve Bike Ride that offers a ride from Washington Square to Central Park, just in time for the fireworks. Meet at 10:30pm at Washington Square Park, 10:50pm at Madison Square Park, or 11:15pm at the Sherman Statue in front of the Plaza Hotel at 59th Street and Fifth Avenue (times-up.org or call 212-802-8222).

On New Year’s Day, visitors can go to the Annual New Year’s Day Marathon Reading, which attracts punk rockers and poets. The day-long event of readings takes place at St. Mark’s Church in-the-Bowery, a landmark of the downtown art scene, located at 131 East 10th Street at Second Avenue. Hear big names like Patti Smith alongside local residents (stmarkschurch-in-the-bowery.com, 212-674-0910).

DAI (ENOUGH)

BERNIE KUKOFF, JONATHAN POLLARD AND JON CUTLER PRESENT
DAI (enough)
Iris Bahr’s Acclaimed One-Woman Play
Returns to New York for Limited Engagement

Previews Begin TONIGHT
Special 6:30pm Performances at The 47th Street Theatre

New York, NY – Bernie Kukoff, Jonathan Pollard and Jon Cutler proudly announce the return to the New York stage of Dai (enough), written and performed by Iris Bahr (www.daitheplay.com). Dai premiered last season at The Culture Project, after which it played a sold-out month-long engagement at the Edinburgh Theatre Festival in August. In addition to receiving two 2007 NY Drama Desk Award nominations, including Best Solo Performance, and a UK Stage Award nomination for Best Solo Performance at this year’s Edinburgh Festival, Ms. Bahr played an invitation-only performance of Dai in May for more than 100 U.N. Ambassadors and Diplomats at the personal request of Israeli UN Ambassador, Dan Gillermann.

Performances of Dai begin TONIGHT (Monday, November 12th) at The 47th Street Theatre (304 West 47th Street) with the final performance occurring on Sunday, March 2, 2008. Opening night for Dai is Monday, November 19th. Dai will be sharing the stage with current 47th Street occupant “Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening.”

Dai transports us into the fast-paced world of a bustling Tel Aviv café, just moments before a suicide bomber enters. Brought to life through Iris Bahr’s razor sharp characterizations, members of all strata of Israeli society, as well as its observers and critics, are captured in what are to be their final moments. But it is Bahr’s ability to find the humor and humanity in even the most dire and tragic circumstances that makes Dai sparkle, as we come to know these eccentric, lost, troubled souls, and peer into their hilarious lives, quirks and neuroses.

Far from a polemic, Dai is meant not as a political statement. Rather, it is designed as a freshly-cut cross section of people living in and visiting Tel Aviv that portrays many experiences and viewpoints. It is ultimately an exploration of the humanity of Israel, how lives are touched by the conflict and the internal ideological turmoil prevalent in Israeli society – a society that manages to sustain its humor and love for life despite the tragic existential crisis in which both sides find themselves.

A cross-section of humanity in her own right, native New Yorker Iris Bahr has been a sergeant in the Israeli army, a neuroscience researcher, a standup comedian and actress, and is the author of the current Bloomsbury published memoir Dork Whore: My Travels Through Asia as a Twenty Year Old Pseudo-Virgin. A dual citizen of America and Israel, Bahr’s many television and film roles include a recurring role on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and a co-starring role in the nationally released Larry The Cable Guy. Ms. Bahr is also the writer/performer of another solo work, Planet America, which has been optioned for development into a feature film.

Dai Producing Team:
Bernie Kukoff and Jonathan Pollard joined forces to produce the Off-Broadway hit musical, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, now in its 12th year at the Westside Theatre. They also produced the hit comedies Over The River and Through the Woods, The Thing About Men, (winner of the Outer Critics Award for Best off-Broadway Musical 2003-2004) and, most recently, the Broadway musical All Shook Up. Jon Cutler’s Broadway producing experience includes the 20th Anniversary revival of Lerner & Loewe’s Camelot and the 25th Anniversary revival of Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady, as well as Lillian Hellman’s Little Foxes, starring Elizabeth Taylor.

The performance schedule for Dai is as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 6:30pm, with matinees on Saturdays at 2:00pm and Sundays at 5:30pm Tickets are $65 for all performances. Outstanding Coconut Shrimp Tempura sushi with spicy sauce and smoked salmon and caviar!

It might not look pretty but the fruit filled sushi is scrumptious!

Mango Mojitos and Sake Sangria were my favorite cocktail!

Fruit stuffed sushi dessert with chocolate and strawberry dipping sauce. It was my favorite thing I tried. If you love mango, pineapple, banana stuffed in a rice wrapper with strawberry, mango and vanilla and chocolate dipping sauce, you must try this!

Liam, one of the handsome waiters!

Tiki Punch reminded me of Hawaii.

Added fun to the evening!

t
The fruity drinks. I tried the Sake Sangria and the Mango Mojitos which were excellent!

The Shrimp Cocktail with a ceviche feel served with cilantro, onions and mango salsa. My favorite appetizer!

On Saturday we headed over to sample the food at Bamboo 52. Bamboo 52 has excellent presentation and tasty sushi and sashimi. For me, it was about fun. Bamboo is festive and now that it is cold it made me feel like I was vacationing on a island in the sun.

The Mango Mojito and Sake Sangria were fruity and fabulous as was the fruit infused sushi dessert pictured at the top. We also tried coconut shrimp tempura sushi with spicy sauce on the side which was also tasty. I plan on trying more sushi at Bamboo 52.

Bamboo 52- Fabulous Fruity Drinks!!!

at

Hey guys,

Last evening I went to Bamboo 52 (West 52nd between 8th and 9th Avenue) It is a great place for drinks and light food. I was most impressed with the sleek, sexy atmosphere and fruity drinks. I also adored the dessert sushi. It is rice paper stuffed with banana, mango, pineapple, strawberry with chocolate and strawberry dipping sauce. It was very sweet and scrumptious.

Photo coverage will come later today. Bamboo 52 will be the new hangout for my monthly happy hours. I look for places that have good atmosphere and food. Bamboo 52 is fabulous. They have great sushi and fabulous priced fruity drinks.

Happy hour is everyday from 12-9. Drinks are only $4.50 and are great value. I will be there a lot!

Cheers!

Last evening I loved the Sake Sangria, and the Mango Mojito.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 17 (5 & 8 PM)
LITTLE SHUBERT THEATER (422 WEST 42ND STREET)

On Monday December 17th Tony® Award nominee John Tartaglia along with some friends from Disney Channel's hit Playhouse Disney kids' television series “Johnny and the Sprites” will take the stage of the Little Shubert Theater (422 West 42nd Street) for a very special live holiday musical celebration for the whole family. JOHNNY AND THE SPRITES LIVE – A MAGICAL HOLIDAY a one day only event will play two performances (5:00PM and 8:00PM) only, with all proceeds benefiting Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS.

JOHNNY AND THE SPRITES LIVE – A MAGICAL HOLIDAY is a holiday-themed evening of songs and scenes featuring faces familiar to fans of the popular TV show. “Sprites” (puppets) Basil, Ginger, Lily and Root will share the stage with Tartaglia to celebrate the diverse and joyous nature of the holiday season. "Johnny and the Sprites" combines the musical talent of Broadway's best with vibrant, endearing puppet characters in a whimsical setting to create a one-of-a-kind program for preschool viewers and their families. Tartaglia stars as Johnny, a singer/songwriter who moves out to the country after inheriting a family home. He soon discovers a portal in his backyard leading to the enchanted world of the Sprites: Ginger, Basil, Lily, Root and Sage. Together, Johnny and the Sprites share valuable lessons about mutual understanding, tolerance and respect for the world around them. Each half-hour episode consists of two 11-minute stories featuring music from some of the theater world's most celebrated songwriters.

“Johnny and the Sprites” premiered in fall of 2005 as a series of five minute shorts. It quickly became popular with fans and was expanded to a full 30 minute program in January 2007. The series features at least two original Broadway-style songs in each episode written by some of the best composers working on Broadway today including Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker (Altar Boyz), Robert Lopez (Avenue Q), and Mark Hollmann (Urinetown). The series also occasionally features guest stars from Broadway including the cast of Altar Boyz and Tony® Award winner Sutton Foster.

JOHNNY AND THE SPRITES LIVE – A MAGICAL HOLIDAY is written by John Tartaglia and directed and choreographed by Donna Drake (director of BC/EFA yearly “Nothing Like A Dame”). Musical Director, Michael Patrick Walker will lead the ensemble of live musicians for the event.
